Conferences and Competitions
Will you be ready?
The Construction Institute will make sure you will!
Challenges abound on heavy civil engineering construction projects – that’s what makes it exciting – that’s why construction engineers love their work! ASCE’s Construction Institute is bringing you a prime opportunity to experience this excitement at the FREE CI New York Student Days conference on the Willis Avenue Bridge construction project site in New York City, Sept. 25, 2009. This is your chance to get first-hand information from project stakeholders on the challenges they faced on this $612 Million project. Test your skills and creativity by working in teams with project experts to develop solutions to posed challenges. Then learn from project stakeholders from Kiewit, Weeks Marine, Hardesty & Hanover, and STV, the real-life solutions that were applied. Grab a professor, classmate, or friend and spend the day with us for some intense OJT.
Need a Legitimate Escape for the Back to School Blues?
Kick off your year with ASCE in Kansas City, MO at the 139th Annual Civil Engineering Conference. Glance ahead 20 years and discover how you can shape the world in the Opening Plenary Session. Prepare yourself for the professional lifestyle by attending sessions on leadership, management, sustainability and best practices. Put your best foot forward while attending interactive special events like the ASCE’s Ice Breaker Reception, Theme Party, and Networking Luncheon. Finish up your week by hearing what Ben Stein really thinks about economics and engineering at the Closing General Session and Breakfast. And, be on the lookout for details on more programs geared towards students like you!
Stick around after the Conference and take part in the 7th Annual Community Service Event taking place Sunday, Nov. 1. It’s a great way to gain hands-on experience and get to know your fellow ASCE members while giving back to the community! This year our site is Heartland Therapeutic Riding, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides equine-assisted therapy through the movement of and human interaction with horses. For more information, click here to contact James Duehning.
This is just a taste of what’s in store. Save the date and let your professors know that you will be in Kansas City from Oct. 29 – 31, 2010. For all these details and more visit www.asceannualconference.org.
