Greetings! On behalf of ASCE, we would like to wish you all the best during this holiday season and throughout the New Year. We are deeply thankful for your continued commitment to ASCE's activities and programs. ASCE is fortunate to have had a very successful year in 2008, and now more than ever we appreciate your involvement in this great Society.
As a nation, we ended the past year with historic events, both economically and politically. After many years of advocating for investment in our nation's infrastructure, we look forward to a new year in which we will welcome a U.S. president who promises to place infrastructure renewal at the forefront of domestic issues. We hope to achieve early adoption of an economic stimulus measure that will improve infrastructure, provide jobs and lay the foundation for a prosperous future for our country. ASCE members and those who work with us can take pride in their role in educating the public and policy leaders about the importance of infrastructure to our nation's safety and economic security.
While ASCE and the civil engineering profession remain healthy, strong and vital to our nation, we are mindful of those who are less fortunate. During the past year, ASCE has made a substantial contribution to support Engineers Without Borders-USA, a terrific organization that represents the caring nature of the engineering profession. Our Society also supported those affected by the Mississippi floods and Gulf Coast hurricanes this year. Our members helped make ASCE's support possible. We are deeply grateful to them and to the many other groups who also offered support. We know that the engineering community will continue to demonstrate the public service spirit of our profession in countless ways, especially during these difficult economic times.
As 2008 comes to a close, we extend to you our continued good wishes for the season, and we wish you a prosperous and successful new year. We are reminded of what is most important: our families and friendships, and sensitivity and generosity towards those most in need.
