Committee on Diversity and Women in Civil Engineering (CDWCE) Members Host Girl Engineering Day

CDWCE

The Committee on Diversity and Women in Civil Engineering  (CDWCE) has awarded the Broward County Branch for their successful promotion of "Girl's Engineering Day" for High School Students.

On February 9, 2006, ASCE Broward County Branch joined female representatives from CDM and Carter & Burgess, Inc. to promote GIRL ENGINEERING DAY where 15 girls from the Plantation High School Magnet Program traveled to CDM to learn more about careers in engineering. CDWCE Member Brandy Creed represented ASCE along and discussed the various branches of civil engineering, PE examinations, the work and salaries of engineers, the college experience, and the importance of joining professional organizations such as ASCE.

The award will be presented to the Branch at the Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN.

Membership

Membership Dues Were Due Jan. 1

ASCE membership dues were due Jan. 1.  Encourage your members to renew as soon as possible if they have not already, and be sure your dues have been paid so that you are not placed in dues “arrears.”

To ensure your dues payment was accepted, log on to www.asce.org/renewal.  Members who have paid will see a message indicating that they are in good standing, and the 2007 dues line will no longer appear as part of the renewal.

Download the Newest Member Value Ads

ASCE’s Online Advertising Library has the materials you need to spruce up your newsletters and marketing efforts.  The library features brand new member value ads as well as articles targeting both develop.m.ent and retention.  You may recognize the ads from ASCE News and Civil Engineering magazine that spotlight real ASCE members working on their projects.  Download the latest ads, in quarter or half page sizes, featuring Innovative Structures, the ASCE Salary Survey and Representing the Profession.

Visit www.ascedrive.org/SectionsBranches.cfm to download your materials.

Thank You to Those Who Nominated Prospective Members

Earlier this fall, ASCE asked members to collect the names of their peers, professional associates and colleagues, and recommend them for membership in ASCE.  The response was overwhelming: 800 members participated, collecting more than 2,500 names.  Members who participated filled out a nomination form, and to thank them for their effort, ASCE entered them in a drawing to win a free trip for two to the 2007 ASCE Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla.  ASCE congratulates Stefanie Ruth Fishman, A.M.ASCE who won the trip.

Each year, ASCE counts on our members to help us grow our membership by recruiting their colleagues through first-hand experiences.

You and your members can nominate peers for a chance to win prizes and help ASCE year round by visiting www.ascedrive.org.

Collaborate with ASCE on a Joint Mailing

Do you have a list of potential members in your area you’d like to join ASCE but don’t have the time or resources?  ASCE can help.  Collaborate on joint mailings with ASCE by sending or e-mailing us a list of non-members whom you would like to join.  Be sure to include information about your Section or Branch and we’ll tailor the letter to reflect the programs and services prospective members can expect when they join.  Plus, we mail the letters on your behalf reducing your staff time and postage to nothing.  When you have your list, e-mail Shaun Singletary at shaunsingletary@asce.org.

You Too Can Put Together an Effective Membership Plan

Join ASCE’s membership staff at any of the four Leadership Conferences in 2007 to craft your Section’s or Branch’s next Membership Plan.  Plus, prepare to learn what you can do to keep your members involved “one day at a time.”

Have You Recognized Your Renewed Members?

Give your members a personal touch by sending a thank you e-mail after they’ve renewed their membership.  The e-mail presents the opportunity to publicize valuable resources provided by your Section/Branch, encourages future dues payments, and doesn’t require a lot of your personal time.

Each Section/Branch has one File Transfer Protocol (FTP) account holder who can access the membership database.  To identify members who have recently paid Section dues, please see the “Section dues paid” field in the FTP database.  Those with a 2007 dues payment will have the payment date associated with that payment.

Contact Michael Cook at (800) 548-ASCE (2723) ext. 6121, (703) 295-6121 or mcook@asce.org with questions about how to use or access the membership database via FTP.
