INDUSTRY NEWS NGWA's Emergency Well Disinfection Field Guide The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) would like to offer an Emergency Well Disinfection Field Guide for dissemination and to help those in the tsunami-stricken areas. The guide can be accessed at this address: http://www.ngwa.org/pdf/welldisinfection.pdf With the scope of the devastation in mind, this well disinfection guide was designed to be a very simplified procedure for people who have no expertise in wells. Also, it can be applied to drilled wells or shallow dug wells. It is the hope of NGWA that this can be of assistance in restoring drinking water supplies that have been contaminated by the tsunami. USGS Coalition's Support of Increased Federal Investment in USGS Programs The USGS Coalition released a statement (view it at http://www.USGScoalition.org/) in support of increased federal investment in USGS programs that they feel will underpin responsible natural resource stewardship, improve resilience to natural and human-induced hazards, and contribute to the long-term health, security and prosperity of the nation. "The USGS Coalition is an alliance of 69 organizations united by a commitment to the continued vitality of the unique combination of biological, geological, hydrological and mapping programs of the U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS provides independent, high-quality data, information, research support and assessments needed by federal, state, local and tribal policymakers, resource and emergency managers, engineers and planners, researchers and educators and the public.
