Visiting International Fellowship 2006

The International Council (IC) of the Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) invites applications for Visiting International Fellows.  Please see http://www.ag.unr.edu/saito/info06.htm for more details and application forms.

The fellowships are intended to assist faculty, professionals, or graduate researchers in developing countries with participating in cultural and technical exchange with EWRI members at the World Water and Environmental Resources Congress 2006 in Omaha, Nebraska (May 21-25, 2006) and in supplementary activities during their visit to the United States.  The objectives of the fellowship are to increase participation in EWRI conferences of water resources and environmental professionals from developing countries, and to promote sustained professional and cultural exchange.  Fellowships will be applied towards (in order of priority):  1) one year membership in EWRI and/or the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); 2) conference registration fees; and 3) hotel fees to attend the conference.  Each Fellow, while at the conference, is expected to give a presentation at the conference on his/her research or a water/environmental resources issue in his/her country in a technical session, and participate with other international fellows in a panel discussion on international water/environmental resource issues as a representative of his/her country.  Each Fellows must be hosted by a United States or Canada-based EWRI/ASCE member who will be responsible for submitting the application to the IC.  The host will assist with arranging a 2-3 day United States or Canada-based professional activity for the Fellow such as visits with key agencies, consultants or researchers in the area of interest to the visitor.  Housing and travel costs during the period outside of the conference are not covered by the fellowship.  Matching fund grants (from corporations, government agencies, schools or individuals) are encouraged, but not required.

The application form must be submitted by the potential host along with an abstract of the paper by September 16th.  For candidate requirements and application procedures, please visit http://www.ag.unr.edu/saito/info06.htm .
