Long Term Management Strategy for Dredged Material in the Delta (Delta LTMS) By: George Nichol, Ph.D., P.E.
A planning and coordination effort has begun to address the beneficial reuse of sediments for levee rehabilitation and ecosystem restoration in the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Delta. This Delta is part of the largest estuarine ecosystem on the West Coast, contains two federally authorized deepwater ship channels, and has levees that are at risk of chronic and catastrophic failure. This effort, termed the “Long Term Management Strategy for Dredged Material in the Delta (Delta LTMS), involves a multitude of federal, state, and local agencies....
