CALL FOR MEMBERS

The Regional Sediment Management (RSM) subcommittee (a subcommittee of the Wetlands and Sediment Management Committee ) is calling for members. RSM is an approach for managing projects and activities involving sand and other sediments that incorporates the principles of integrated watershed resources management, integrated coastal management, and improved dredged material management. It recognizes sediment as a resource and the need to consider projects and actions affecting sediment in the context of regional sediment systems and regional connectivity that affect important hydrogeomorphological processes.  The RSM subcommittee is now working on a policy statement regarding regional sediment management to be considered for adoption as an ASCE policy statement. Future subcommittee projects include a white paper on “Achieving the Mutual Objectives of Flood Hazard Reduction and Habitat Protection through Wetland and Sediment Management,” and a review of some of the current RSM practices nationwide. If you are interested in participating in this subcommittee’s work please call George Nichol at (916) 475-3797 or send an email to george.nichol@comcast.net.
