COMMITTEE UPDATE

Education, Ports 2010 Conference Organizing Committees to Host Student Paper Contests

COPRI's Education Committee in cooperation with the Ports 2010 Conference Planning Committee is pleased to announce a student paper competition as well as plans for a dedicated student program at the April 25-28, 2010 conference in Jacksonville, Florida.

This conference will feature a student program to provide interested students at the undergraduate and graduate levels with the opportunity to learn more about all facets of port and harbor engineering, meet industry professionals, and contribute to the success of the conference. At this conference, student papers are being encouraged for an undergraduate program and for a graduate program. For graduate students, papers will be submitted for the conference and reviewed with the professional papers. A stipend to attend the conference will be made available to the authors of the top rated papers. Students in civil engineering, coastal and ocean engineering, and environmental engineering are encouraged to apply submit papers and join in the exciting programs.

For undergraduates, there will be a separate paper and speech contest judged by senior industry professionals. The best 10 papers will be presented at the conference, and judged for first, second and third place. Prizes will be given, along with a guest admission to the conference for a day.

For graduate students, the deadline for abstracts is January 22, 2009, and for undergraduates, the deadline will be set for late spring 2009. The final due date will be posted on the Ports 2010 web site well in advance.
