short courses, ranging from instruction in computer-aided design and data manipulation to an examination of tsunami behavior and an investigation of issues resulting from coastal zone assessments. Register now.

Stephen Hughes, Ph.D, P.E., M. ASCE, and Jeff Melby, Ph.D, will offer a course on recent developments in coastal structure design that addresses wave run-up, advances in rubble-mound armor stability, forces on vertical walls and design of low-crested breakwaters.

The National Coastal Mapping Program and data manipulation in ArcIS will be addressed in a short course offered by Linda Lillycrop of the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory of the Army Engineer Research and Development Center and Rose Dopsovic and Jennifer Wozencraft, of the Mobile District of the Corps of Engineers. Basic knowledge of ArcGIS is encouraged but not required.

International researchers from London and Stockholm will share their expertise and project findings at the course on integration in coastal management. This course is expected to challenge attendees to consider the issues and constraints of science and policy integration.

Full-day tsunami course attendees will learn about the hydrodynamic processes of tsunami waves, effects on coastal land areas and responses of bays and inlets. They also will consider infrastructure and coastal landscape issues.

The half-day courses, which provide 4 PDHs, cost $210 before March 11 and $260 afterward. Lunch and course materials are included. The full-day course, which provides 8 PDHs, will cost $350 and $400 respectively. Attendees can choose two short courses for the price of the full course, a $70 savings.

Until February 12, COPRI members, cooperating organizations and conference speakers can register for the conference for $595. Along with the registration, this fee includes all meals, receptions and a luau. Attendees also will receive a copy of the proceedings. Conference proceedings will contain 115 refereed technical papers from the United States and 15 foreign countries.   The conference technical program will be posted on the conference web site no later than January 15. Post-conference tours are scheduled for April 16-17.

Early-bird registration for students is just $200 and on-site registration $250.
