In addition to this year’s excellent technical programs, the Ports 2010 program will be filled with opportunities to enjoy the company of your colleagues. At the Tuesday evening gala, you’ll have the chance to hear from a fellow engineer who has spent his career working in a different atmosphere. Jack Bacon, Ph.D., P.E., a noted futurist and technological historian, as well as an aeronautical enginer, will be addressing topics concerning technology and the factors that shape human society while attendees enjoy a tantalizing meal in the Crown Royal Touchdown Club.

| Invited keynote speaker Dr. Jack Bacon, Ph.D, P.E. |
Dr. Bacon has often been called "A New Carl Sagan." He is one of the most requested speakers in the world for topics concerning technology and the factors that shape human society. The evening gala at the Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium is included in the conference registration cost. Additional tickets are available to attendees’ guests for $170 and to non-registrants for $200. Though he is an acclaimed lecturer, Bacon’s day job hours are spent on the management team overseeing the construction and operation of the most complicated technical project in history: the International Space Station.
According to his website biography, Bacon is a graduate of Caltech (B.S. '76) and the University of Rochester (Ph.D. '84). His resume says that he was the lead U.S. systems integrator of the Zarya, the jointly-built spacecraft that forms the central bridge and adapter between all US and Russian technologies on the Space Station, which was built in Moscow by American and Russian engineers and launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in November 1998. Bacon has received NASA’s Exceptional Achievement Medal, the Director’s Special Commendation, and the coveted Silver Snoopy award-the only award to fly in space.
