The presentation was made during the Fourth International Short Conference on Applied Coastal Research in Barcelona, Spain.

Dr. Burcharth recently retired from Aalborg University in Denmark where he was in charge of the Hydraulics and Coastal Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Civil Engineering. He also serves as Advisory Professor at East China Technical University of Water Resources, Hohai University, Nanjing, China. In addition, he performs consulting activities related to port and coastal engineering projects in Denmark as well as in a number of countries worldwide. He has been knighted with the distinguished Royal Danish Order of the Dannebrog. He is an expert in breakwater design, and has been recognized with an Honorary Doctorate from Ghent University, Belgium as an appreciation of his unique research within the areas of port engineering and coastal protection.
