Outreach Has Its Rewards! Share Your Successes and You Could Win an iPod Classic
ASCE wants to hear from you! The Pre-College Outreach Program is launching its first online questionnaire for outreach volunteers to solicit member feedback and get a better picture of the scope of pre-college outreach volunteerism around the country. Your answers will provide information about member outreach activities and help ASCE assess the state of pre-college outreach initiatives and strengthen our network of volunteers. To take the survey, visit http://www.asce.org/outreach/index.html Responses will be accepted through September 30, 2009. Members who complete the entire survey will be entered in a drawing to receive an iPod Classic pre- loaded with the full season of Design Squad videos to help inspire your educational outreach events. ASCE will share results from the survey and announce the lucky iPod winners in October.
Pre-College Outreach Program Taps into Social Media to Bolster Outreach Efforts
ASCE’s Pre-College Outreach program is inviting volunteers to take advantage of social media to bolster their pre-college outreach efforts. A new online volunteer center for civil engineers will be the place to go to learn more about pre-college outreach and get connected with others engaged in this fun and important educational initiative. Links to ASCE’s Pre-College Outreach Facebook group, and FlickR page are included. In addition, profiles of pre-college outreach champions and events around the country give visitors a glimpse of outreach in action.
Volunteers are encouraged to upload photos and share their events and lessons learned. Visit http://www.asce.org/outreach/index.html
to get involved and stay connected.
Call for AEI Volunteers for ASCE Pre-College Outreach
As ASCE's pre-college outreach efforts continue to expand and attract attention from engineers, educators, kids and parents, AEI
is looking for 3 to 5 members who would be willing to serve as
the AEI Outreach Liaison to periodically chat with the ASCE outreach staff, communicate with students and parents about their respective fields or perhaps serve as a content resource. These are just a few ways AEI members can help advance ASCE's pre-college outreach efforts. The new ASCE site for kids (www.ASCEville.org) may inspire you to get involved. If interested, please contact Amar Chaker, Director of AEI at achaker@asce.org.

Your Help Is Needed for Manual 45!
ASCE Consulting Engineering Practice Survey
2008 - 2009
www.asce.org/m45
ASCE is improving Manual No. 45, How to Work Effectively With Consulting Engineers, which provides guidance on procuring engineering services for a quality project. We need your help to obtain the most accurate information on compensation for engineering services to make this next edition of Manual 45 more valuable than ever. It is critical that we obtain a broad response of actual project data. We are asking principals and project managers to submit one survey per office. The survey is available at http://www.asce.org/m45. We request that you pass this announcement on to your colleagues for their use as well. The survey is completely confidential and only ASCE staff will have access to individual survey responses and contact information. Each respondent will be entered into a drawing for an iPod nano. If you have any questions or want information on alternate submission methods, you may call Becky Waldrup, Manager, Professional Practice at 800-548-2723, ext. 6281 or send an e-mail to rwaldrup@asce.org.
