Request for Feedback on Paper on Oil and Water - AAWRE diplomate, Thomas Smith, PE, BCEE, CPSWQ, CPESC, CESSWI, LEED AP, D.WRE, Vice President of Engineering at Paradigm Engineering, Ltd., in Lewisville, Texas, recently drafted a paper on his findings in treatment approach concept for water produced during oil and gas operations. Water management strategies need to be used in the oil and gas industry to protect the environment and to minimize the amount of waste produced. Oil-produced and gas-produced water recovery technology can include pretreatment followed by membrane filtration (a combination of micro-filtration, ultra-filtration and/or reverse osmosis). This produced water recovery treatment method is similar in process and technology to that being used in brackish groundwater and seawater desalination. Produced water can be treated and reused as an alternative to fresh water sources. This proposal presents a treatment approach concept for consideration and review purposes only. This is a prepublication work in progress and will be edited for detail over time. If interested, please send any comments or feedback to Thomas Smith at: tom.smith@paradigm-engineering.com.
Environmental and Water Resources: Milestones in Engineering History - Edited by Jerry R. Rogers, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, Dist.M.ASCE - contains 18 papers and is the fourth in a series of History and Heritage publications produced from EWRI and ASCE.
