AAWRE welcomes and congratulates fifty-eight new Diplomates from the fall review. Out of this group, Professor Rafael L. Bras, Sc.D., P.E., Hon.D.WRE, of
Massachusetts Institute of Technology was nominated and deemed an Honorary Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (Hon.D.WRE) of the Academy. Professor Bras was given honorary status by the Academy's Board of Trustees for his life's work and research in
hydrology, hydro-meteorology and hydroclimatology. AAWRE congratulates Professor Bras and the rest of the group of new Diplomates. The complete list of all new Diplomates will be published in the next newsletter.

Environmental and Water Resources: Milestones in Engineering History - Edited by Jerry R. Rogers, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE - contains 18 papers, many of which were presented at the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) Congress and Fourth National EWRI History Symposium held May 15–19, 2007 in Tampa, Florida. This is the fourth in a series of History and Heritage publications produced from EWRI and ASCE. Unique to this volume are a photo essay of the Hoover Dam taken by Ansel Adams and papers on the remarkable career of James Pugh Kirkwood (1807-1877), waterworks engineer and ASCE leader, on the 200th anniversary of his birth. Other papers address such topics as historic small-scale water projects, the history of U.S. water filtration, the Florida Water Management Project, the history of experimental watershed research in the U.S., and other important historical water issues. World Water Monitoring Day -
Adopted by Water Environment Federation (WEF) in July 2006, World Water Monitoring Day (WWMD) is an international outreach program that builds public awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world. Held annually between September 18 and October 18, the program engages communities in monitoring the condition of local rivers, streams, estuaries and other water bodies.
